Title:Massive Gravity, Stuckelberg Fields, and Explicit Diffeomorphism Breaking
No PDF available, click to view other formatsAbstract:A no-go theorem for explicit Lorentz and diffeomorphism breaking in gravitational theories derived by Kostelecky is applied in theories of massive gravity. Generically, it is found that exact solutions with dynamical gravitational excitations cannot exist. It is also found that using a Stuckelberg formalism, which restores diffeomorphism invariance, does not escape the consequences of the no-go theorem. The conditions for exact solutions to evade the no-go theorem are examined. It is shown that exact solutions that reduce to General Relativity with a cosmological constant escape the no-go theorem. However, fully dynamical exact solutions with massive-mode excitations appear to be ruled out.
