brian, five two-year old daughter walked out of a id here a few hours ago, he and others on that street say they did what he they could to try to save that little boy. the sound of anguish rippled through this tioga nicetown neighborhood. family of the seven year-old boy watched investigators examine the car that struck and killed him. >> i heard tires screech and little girl scream. no. >> reporter: philadelphia police say around 4:00 p.m. wednesday boy was with his mother and sisters walking home from school on the 3600 block of north 15th street near erie avenue. when he walk between two parked cars into the street. this buick le saber ran over him, the driver stopped, but witnesses say because he was unsure of what he hit man started to backup and injure the child even more this neighbor who does not the want to be identified said he and the the driver used a carjack to lift the vehicle off of the boy. >> i knew it was bad. i didn't know whether he would be responsive or not but at

someone intentionally set the fire of john and joyce sheridan's home. "action news" reporter sharrie williams is following this arson investigation live from the satellite center, sharrie. >> reporter: shirleen, there are a number of agencies involved at this point because they want to get the the information right. one official actually calling it quote an exhaustive investigation. but this confirms today that this major development that this fire was intentionally set by someone, the lingering question is who. set the on purpose, that is the ruling on the fire that erupted at the home of cooper health ceo john sheridan and his wife joyce. somerset county prosecutor's office made the announcement today, fire fighters, responded to a 911 fire call sunday morning, at their home on meadow run drive-in montgomery township. the blaze was contained to their upstairs master bedroom but authorities haven't said whether the fire caused their death. and how the fire started, has yet to be answeredded.

but "action news" sources say that there is no evidence of an intruder, 27 year-old john sheridan died at the scene while his 69 year-old wife died at the hospital. before taking over cooper, john sheridan served as state transportation commissioner in the cain administration and credited with helping revive camden. his wife was a retired schoolteacher. the the arson ruling was released to day and so was this statement by their four boys. it reads in part, the death of our parents has left a hole in our hearts and family that can never be filled. we cannot fathom much less explain the circumstances of their passing. so the the couple leaves behind those four boys, long with several grandchildren. we will likely learn more about how the sheridans died when the information from their autopsy is released. live from the satellite center, sharrie williams for "action news" at ten on phl17. >> sharrie, thanks very much. we now know identity of the man diagnosed with ebola in texas.

his name is thomas duncan, he was visiting the u.s. from liberia and health officials now say he left have africa on a brussels airlines jet and caught two united airlines flight to dallas fort worth international airport. duncan is being treated at a texas hospital tonight but there are new questions now about why he was sent home the first time he went there seeking help. duncan told a nurse that he traveled from west africa but nurse apparently did not pass that information on. three days later he was admitted and fighting for his life, investigators are monitoring 18 people with whom he came in contact, including several children. secret service director, julia pierson is out of a job tonight, she resigned, amid intense scrutiny over security lapses, involving the president and the white house. the latest incident involves an armed man who made it into the interior of the executive mansion. that suspect omar jay gonzales

pleaded not guilty in court today. pierson will be replaced on a interim basis by joseph clancy, currently director of security at comcast here in philadelphia. clancy retired in 2011 as head of the secret service's presidential protective division. it is now official, lighting up or possessing a small amount of marijuana will not get you arrested now in philadelphia. today mayor michael nutter signed a bill that decriminalizes the offense. it states carrying less than 30 grams of marijuana will get violators a $25 fine. smoking it in public will carry a 100-dollar fine and or community services. new rule initial to effect october 20th. meanwhile as of tonight smoking cigarettes now cost more in philadelphia. city's new cigarette tax went in effect which adds $2 of each pack of smokes. revenues will benefit the cash strapped philadelphia public school district. a canadian firm could

breathe new life into what was once the revel casino hotel. brookfield asset management has the winning bid in today's bankruptcy auction for the failed gambling hall. at 110 million-dollar, it acquired the two $.4 billion property for pennies on the dollars. union workers are looking at the deal as fingers crossed with hopes that the sale will bring jobs back to a struggling atlantic city. brookfield owns hard rock casino in los angeles and atlantis paradise island casino in the bohamas. we have had a nice start to october but we've got some rain moving in for the weekend. meteorologist adam joseph has the accu weather details at the big board. >> it comes in over beginning of the weekend but a couple days before that horizon. satellite radar will show we had cloud cover through most of the day especially philadelphia to the north and east, more sunshine in the western and southwestern suburbs, and at the present time you can see that low lying, cloud deck again is

basically from philadelphia, allentown, around millville, all points to the north and east with some breaks in the clouds especially heading toward wilmington, dover and out toward lancaster and reading. the as we wake up early tomorrow morning depending on your location it will be brighter, west of philadelphia, cloudy, east of philadelphia, 58 at 6:00 o'clock in the morning and at 8:00 o'clock temperature right around 59. satellite and radar low pressure right now is off the coast of boston and that is spinning those clouds back to those northeastern areas and we're tracking a cold front with severe weather in the the nation's heart land near st. louis and chicago. that is front that will progress to the east at end of the week and upcoming weekend. for friday around here it is sunny, it is warm but that front progresses through and by saturday seven or 8:00 o'clock in the morning, that is when rain starts to push in and shirleen, we will let you know just how long that rain will last over weekend and chill down that is following the rain coming up in accu weather.

>> thanks, adam. two state troopers suffered minor injuries searching for suspected cop killer eric frein. frein has been on the run since being accused of killing a state trooper on september 12th. meantime life is slowly returning to normal in the poconos, business owners say they are concerned that the search is hurting tourism and in addition hunting has been banned in search areas. meanwhile we are learning more tonight about yesterday's accidentallal shooting of a pennsylvania state trooper at a training facility in conshohocken. trooper david kedra was killed during firearms training. sources tell "action news" that the instructor's gun miss fire. it hid kedra in the chest and flown to temple university hospital where he died a short time later. twenty-six year-old kedra had been stationed at skippack barracks for just two years. things got rather testy this morning as two men vying for pennsylvania's governor ship went face-to-face in their second debate.
