Chapter 26: As Jane and Rochester are about to be married, two strangers enter the church and revel that Rochester is married to Bertha, Mr. Mason’s sister. Rochester confirms this and explains that he kept it a secret because Jane wouldn’t marry him if she knew. They then go to the attic of Thornfield and open a secret room where Bertha stays. Bertha tries to kill Rochester, showing that she was crazy. After, Jane goes back to her room and locks herself in. She experiences immense grief.
