Nu Skool Breaks history

the other day when Raketa and myself were preparing and recording tonight's show i kept searching for "that rennie pilgrem's track" and i just could't find it among the discography on discogs. i did have vinyl single somewhere that i remember it was total hit on our breaks parties around 2000.

today i went through all my vinyls and found it at the end of the rack

i feel, for me, this -- Rennie Pilgrem's remix of 'The Promethean Groove' by Kaistar - actually one of BT alts -- is the primer nu skool breaks track. more than his 'a place called acid'. it has the tech vibe with very electro snares, the syncopated breakbeats slightly in the background, and tasteful 303 line, sub bass slides... released by City of Angels label who in the second half of 90s released the likes of Crystal Method, Lunatic Calm, Überzone..., essentially the US acid-electro-breaks scene

"Symbolism is the language of the unconscious mind, the deep wisdom that is part of how we are made. Sometimes the unconscious talks to itself and occasionally shares its wisdom aloud in the form of symbols. Many things we do without thinking are ways the unconscious reminds us of our larger nature. It may take many years before we can draw the sword from the stone personally and know who we are. Before that time, our integrity may reach out without our knowing to parts of ourselves that have been denied and disowned, to feed them and strengthen them until we can come back for them."

In sum, the earliest recorded uses of the term "vampire" appear in French, English, and Latin, and they refer to vampirism in Poland, Russia, and Macedonia (Southern Yugoslavia). The second and more sweeping introduction of the word occurs in German, French, and English, and records the Serbian vampire epidemic of 1725-32.
Thus, the historical data appear to complement the linguistic studies, for the first occurrences of the term "vampire" in European languages all refer to the Slavic superstitions;the wide dissemination of the term and its extensive use in the vernacular follows the outburst of vampirism in Serbia. Paradoxically, although the superstition of vampirism seems to have developed in Eastern Europe, the word "vampire" (for which the Slavic cognate is upir) that is now universally used to describe the phenomenon, seemed to have gained popularity in the West.

calling all live sound specialists for helpn

on stage i have have a speaker box with mid and high separate inputs, and the box at the back says crossover point is at 3700hz, also there's a sub with declared freq response 40-350hz. how should the crossover be set? for unknown reason the mid-high crossover is currently at 1.4k. is this correct? the sound is definitely wrong...

Pianist Randy Weston is one of the first American artists to present an album of highlife music. As often happens, when rhythms or music from foreign countries are assimilated into American music, some of the original elements are lost However, Randy's treatments of the highlife with special rhythm effects brings the selections in this album closer to the native highlife rhythms than many of the current, so-called highlife albums on the market.

Randy's hobby is African culture and music, so he has been acquainted with the highlife for several years, having heard it on records made in Africa. When he was in Lagos, Nigeria for a series of concerts, sponsored by the American Society of African Culture in 1961, he had an opportunity to hear the highlife in an authentic setting. He became even more interested in African music and its intriguing rhythm patterns. On his return to the United States, he began writing music in the highlife medium.
