Do a scan of the remote sensing literature for papers written about
the AVIRIS system built at JPL. It's a 224 channel visible/IR airborne
hyperspectral system and has been utilised for many purposes. I can
give you authors/titles for some of the geo-science papers if you
get stuck, but have nothing on forestry.

The predecessor of AVIRIS was a sensor called AIS. Literature before
about 1988 will only mention these.
