Yes, you can call this thing an X-Y-table

Or an X-Y-Z table if you need a third axis.

Linear Motion Products makes them

Fax (516) 326.8827
TWX: 510.223.0642 (Whatever that is)

These things are expensive!!!

For a 2-D (X and Y movements) You need:

(2) standard slides $815.00 each for 75mm travel
up to $1980.00 each for 1275 mm Travel
(1) X-Y adapter plate for $230.00
(1) Motor controller card for PC $980.00
(2) Motor drivers $205 Each
(1) Power supply $1340
(2) Motors $390 Each

For a total of merely $5140 plus misc cables, etc.

They also have complete sets for $10,000 to $18,000 for
software, power supplies, X-Y-Z tables, milling heads, etc..

If you have the cash, these are the guys to deal with.
