The educational branch of LEGO (I believe it is LEGO DACTA) has an 
excellent catalog of kits for simple robot designs (acuators, 
controllers, wheels, tracks, etc.) that are pretty neat (and a bit 
expensive). The generic starter kits are the best buy.
