Works fine in most cases. There are exceptions. Look at the data shhet 
for the 44 pin qfp. In your case I think there will be no problem. The 
only exception I am aware of is the 87c751 whch has (an actual error) in 
that some designer got the clock pins wrong.

I think I have built about a dozen adaptors like this now as I usually 
end up using parts before the programmer folks catch up.
