Homebrewers and University roboticists:

I will be sponsoring a "Mobile Robot Safety Contest" which will be open to
any autonomous or remote-control non-commercially-made robot. The contest
will be held during the Exploratorium Robot Competition on Sept. 18, from
11 am to 4 pm. It will also be held at the Robotics Society of Southern
California Robot Faire on Oct. 2.

No advance registration is necessary for this contest. You simply bring
your robot to the MRSC judging area. Evaluation should take between five
and fifteen minutes.

Robots will be scored by awarding points for positive safety features
(e.g. fuses, kill switches, etc.) and subtracting points for hazardous
features (sharp edges, etc.). A robot can score a maximum of 120 points.

Cash prizes will be awarded to three robots with the most positive points
as follows:  First place, $1.00 per point; Second place, $.80 per point;
Third place, $.50 per point.

The complete set of rules for the MRSC is in a related post. If you want
a DTP'd hardcopy of the rules, e-mail me your postal (s-mail) address.
