The San Francisco Robotics Society Robot Sumo contest to be held in
conjunction with the "See The Future" exhibition in San Jose, October 21-23,
now has cash prizes for the winning entries. Prizes are :
     First Prize - $ 2000
     Second Prize - $ 1000
     Third Prize - $ 500

Rules for this event will follow the standard rules set by Fuji Software for
the Japanese event with the following exceptions:

1. Only autonomous entries will be eligible for the cash prizes
2 The scoring will be done by round-robin. Each entry will compete against
all other entries. 1 point will be awarded for a win. 1/2 point will be awarded
to each entry in a tie. Highest point totals will determine final standings. In
the event of a tie there will be a final elimination round.
3. The event will be held in an outdoor arena.
4. The sumo ring is the same dimensions as required by the Japanese rules but
uses a different surface material.

A "tune-up" event will be held at the San Francisco Exploritorium on September
18 as part of the annual Robot Contest and Exhibition. The same Sumo ring and
judging system to be used in the "See The Future" event will be used in the
Exploritorium event.
