Following this thread I just have to comment.  I really like the idea of
a robotic butterfly and have found myself watching the behaviour of real
butterflies and dragonflies a little more closely now.

Some sort of flying robot is in my top three robots to build before I die.
I was thinking more along the lines of a bat or something.

My question is why is there a need for such a large wing span?  Even if
you were to use some sort of gas bouyance system would you still need the
wing span to be so large?

Also does anyone out there have any details (mechanical mostly) on that
tyredactal (sp) that has been talked about?  I'm very interested in that.
