One application we were toying with a while ago was a robot that climbed
lamposts, to inspect or paint them. This then progressed to inspecting
telegraph poles, and then onto climbing trees. The final system would
climb a tree, felling the branches as it climbed with a chain saw, all
autonomously. It worked ok in the lab, but the vision system would become
confused in the real world.
