Use of displays is quite common in kiosk and industrial applications
which require (no surprise) extended operating temperatures of -40 to
+85C. When we couldn't find a decent off-the-shelf card reader with
display, we built our own with vacuum fluorescent displays from IEE
which offered a -40 to +85C operating temperature (which is necessary
for outdoor use in Green Bay, WI).
