Very good question. I don't know how much current you could get, but
it definately is possible. The only problem is, you'd have to make the
electrodes replaceable, as they would be sacrificial(sp?). They would 
corrode away to nothing in such an application. I used to have a chart
with the electrical potential of different materials (mostly metals) 
which showed (in order) which ones were more negative (or positive)
than the others. (does anyone have a list like this?) With this list,
you could find the (easiest to get) materials on the chart which were
furthest apart to get the highest current from such a battery.
