In conjunction with the See The Future exposition, I will be sponsoring a
contest designed to encourage the safe and reliable design and construction
of mobile robots.

The contest is open to all home-made mobile robots, both autonomous and
remote-controlled (no tethers). Commercially-made robots may be entered
for evaluation, but are not eligible for the prizes.

Robots are evaluated as follows: Each entry will be examined by a panel of
three judges. Points are awarded for positive features that enhance the
safety and reliability of operation. Points are subtracted for negative
features that could allow the robot to injure people or damage its operating
environment. Position and prize money are determined by the number of
points scored.

*Cash* prizes can be awarded to up to three contestants. First place can
earn up to $120. Second place can earn up to $96. Third place can earn
up to $60.

Tentative rules for the contest are available now. The final rules will be
available at the end of July. If you want a copy of the rules, e-mail me
your postal address.
