Is there anyone out there who knows both eiffel and smalltalk
and would care to comment on the comparative strengths and
weakness of each?

FYI, I am working in a networked Unix environment (linux and solaris)
and am talking to an rdbms server. In addition to doing the usual
client-server stuff, I must also make decisions about how to assemble
components and in what order based on an elaborate set of rules.

Thanks,

dale
