   The primary original goal of COM was to put in place the principles and 
   infrastructure that would engender a vigorous component marketplace of 
   software. It was originally applied to compound documents, but since to 
   the widget marketplace (OLE Controls) and then to others as I mentioned.

What is the primary current goal?  Do you think a vigorous software
component marketplace is arising or will arise in the near future?
