If this is really your problem, you might want to try a different
language.

It's been a good day: a post to comp.lang.c++ about problems with
a newsreader, a post to comp.lang.dylan requesting a CD from an
Oslo concert, and now this.

(I'm not denigrating you, Allen, and I'd help you if I could, but
I can't without generalizing your problem. I presume there's some
reason you can't or don't want to connect to the university
machines and use Chez.)
