You might want to look into MacGambit, an implementation of the scheme
language for the Macintosh. Gambit is a r4rs &  IEEE compliant version
of scheme.

The latest version is available at:
ftp://trex.iro.umontreal.ca:pub/gambit

I am using to learn lisp at home, so it may be suitable for your
purposes.
