Please help this scheme newcomer answer a question:
Do most scheme implementations offer a method of seeking
to a random location in a file, or must all file accesses
be done sequentially? R4RS does not mention seeking. Dybvig
does not mention seeking. The MIT Scheme manual does not
mention seeking. The SCM manual mentions a procedure "file-
set-position" which seems to perform seeking. Or have I
missed something? Of course, the effect of a seek is possible
by closing a file, reopening it, and reading past unwanted
characters, but that's unthinkable (except I just thought it).

Thanks for your attention,

Phil
