Sorry.  I just can across this thread, too late to be able to find the
original posting and, I guess, a lot of the follow-ups.  So, forgive
me if this has been said before:

Presumably, the parsing abilities of psgml, the elisp add-on for emacs
that makes it reasonably SGML-aware, don't fill the bill.

psgml can be found on ftp.ex.ax.uk in pub/SGML/psgml, and, I expect,
in many other places.  Ask archie.
