as a side note, MacScheme+Toolsmith provides a complete toolbox
interface.

blurb from MacScheme manual:

MacScheme+Toolsmith is the name of our development system. it is
intended for programmers who wish to produce stand-alone applications
for the Macintosh. It comes with a set of libraries that make nearly
all of the Macintosh Toolbox traps and data structures available to the
Scheme programmer. Toolsmith improves the modularity of the Macintosh
applications by eliminating the traditional event loop. Instead, the
event loop runs as a seperate, pre-programmed task that interacts with
the application program through a set of customizable high-level objects
and programmable interrupt handlers. Toolsmith also supports multiple
concurrent tasks that conveniently handle repetitive chores such as
blinking the insertion point or changing the shape of the cursor.

end blurb.

yes, i know MacScheme+Toolsmith costs money. i think it is well
worth it. [i cannot be bothered to port psi over.] ymmv etc.
