In comp.lang.scheme, the folks are having a raging discussion on where
and how Scheme should evolve. It's been fascinating to watch and
follow, but as a neophyte, I'm at a bit of a loss on some of the
terminology.

I've seen similiar discussions in comp.lang.lisp, so I'm posting this
there as well.

I was hoping that someone could mail me or post some "laymen"
definitions of:

    o Closures

    o Continuations

    o Opaque Types

By "laymen" I mean in terms that a poor soul whose computing experience
has been immeresed in the world of popular algorithmic languages can
understand. The Lisp/Scheme community seems to have a different
vocabulary than we ...ummm... "hacks" who aren't designing languages,
rather just trying to apply them. Maybe there are similar arguments and
discussions going on in other language topics, but I'm not trying to
absorb those languages, so I don't lurk there.

It seems that a lot of folks are using Lisp/Scheme, but also a lot of
folks are doing a lot of experiments and studies re-implementing and
extending Lisp/Scheme. So, I'm just trying to get up to speed so I can
listen! :-)

Thanx for any clarity you can provide.
