Then I'd say you were in an unusual position. I'd never give a book
like CLtL to a Lisp newbie. I'm not even sure I'd give the 3rd edition
of Winston and Horn to a Lisp newbie.

I've not understood the SETF critism at all. Is it a problem with
assignment, or just with the SETF way of doing assignment? And what
alternative's are there? A-STORE, PUTPROP, etc? Yuk.
