Artist Cathy Lu, whose work manipulates traditional Chinese art objects and symbols as a means of exploring what it means to be both Asian and American, is a new faculty member in Art Practice. Lu's work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian, the US Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco.

The Townsend Center is pleased to support Clio’s Scroll, the Berkeley undergraduate history journal, which celebrates its 45th anniversary. Produced twice yearly by students in the Department of History, the journal provides undergraduates with the opportunity to publish outstanding historical scholarship.

Sara Guyer Speaking before Audience

In a recent interview, Arts & Humanities dean Sara Guyer contradicts the myth that the arts and humanities’ relevance is in decline: “The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring like crazy.”
