Novel imaging technique for thermal neutrons using a fast optical camera / Gao, Tianqi (Manchester U.) ; D'Amen, Gabriele (Brookhaven) ; Burdin, Sergey (Liverpool U.) ; Alsulimane, Mohammad (Liverpool U.) ; Campbell, Paul (Manchester U.) ; Da Via, Cinzia (Manchester U. ; YITP, Stony Brook) ; Nomerotski, Andrei (Brookhaven) ; Roberts, Adam (Liverpool U.) ; Svihra, Peter (Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Mavrokoridis, Konstantinos (Liverpool U.) et al.
A novel imaging technique for thermal neutrons using a fast optical camera is presented. Thermal neutrons are reacted with 6Lithium to produce a pair of 2.73 MeV tritium and 2.05 MeV alpha particles, which in turn interact in a thin layer of LYSO crystal scintillator to produce a localized flash of light. Intensified Tpx3Cam, a fast data-driven optical camera with nanosecond timing resolution for single photon detection in quantum applications / Nomerotski, Andrei (Brookhaven) ; Chekhlov, Matthew (Brookhaven) ; Dolzhenko, Denis (Brookhaven) ; Glazenborg, Rene (Photonis, Brive) ; Farella, Brianna (Brookhaven) ; Keach, Michael (Brookhaven) ; Mahon, Ryan (Brookhaven) ; Orlov, Dmitry (Photonis, Brive) ; Svihra, Peter (Prague, Tech. U. ; CERN)
We describe a fast data-driven optical camera, Tpx3Cam, with nanosecond scale timing resolution and 80 Mpixel/sec throughput. After the addition of intensifier, the camera is single photon sensitive with quantum efficiency determined primarily by the intensifier photocathode. [...]

Investigation of CLYC-6 for thermal neutron detection and CLYC-7 for fast neutron spectrometry / Ferrulli, Francesca (Caen U. ; CERN) ; Labalme, Marc (Caen U.) ; Silari, Marco (CERN)
Highly enriched  6Li and  7Li Cs2LiYCl 6 (CLYC) scintillators were investigated in view of their application as thermal neutron counter (CLYC-6) and as fast neutron spectrometer (CLYC-7) in the recently developed B-RAD radiation survey metre, an instrument designed to work in regions of high magnetic fields, currently equipped with a probe for photon dose rate measurements and γ-spectrometry. Both crystals were irradiated with a 2.5 MeV mono-energetic neutron beam from a Deuterium–Deuterium (D–D) generator and characterised in terms of neutron/γ-ray (n/γ) discrimination capability by the Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD) method, energy resolution and quenching factor. Progress with the single-sided module prototypes for the ATLAS tracker upgrade stave / Allport, P P (Liverpool U.) ; O'Shea, V (Glasgow U.) ; Wiik, L (Brookhaven) ; Dressnandt, N (Pennsylvania U.) ; Matheson, J (Rutherford) ; Li, Z (Brookhaven) ; Viehhauser, G (Oxford U.) ; Gallop, B (Rutherford) ; Jones, T J (Liverpool U.) ; Dwuznik, M (AGH-UST, Cracow) et al.
The ATLAS experiment is preparing for the planned luminosity upgrade of the LHC (the super-luminous LHC or sLHC) with a programme of development for tracking able to withstand an order of greater magnitude radiation fluence and much greater hit occupancy rates than the current detector. This has led to the concept of an all-silicon tracker with an enhanced performance pixel-based inner region and short-strips for much of the higher radii. [...]

Measurements of binding energies and electromagnetic moments of silver isotopes – A complementary benchmark of density functional theory / de Groote, R P (Jyvaskyla U. ; Leuven U.) ; Nesterenko, D A (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Kankainen, A (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Bissell, M L (Manchester U.) ; Beliuskina, O (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Bonnard, J (York U., England ; IP2I, Lyon) ; Campbell, P (Manchester U.) ; Canete, L (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Cheal, B (Liverpool U.) ; Delafosse, C (Jyvaskyla U.) et al.
We report on a set of high-precision measurements of nuclear binding and excitation energies, as well as nuclear spins, magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of neutron-rich silver isotopes, 113−123Ag. The measurements were performed using the JYFLTRAP mass spectrometer and the collinear laser spectroscopy beamline at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility. [...]

Neutron and beta imaging with Micromegas detectors with optical readout / Cools, A (IRFU, Saclay) ; Aune, S (IRFU, Saclay) ; Beau, F (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Benali, M (LIST, Saclay) ; Brunbauer, F M (CERN) ; Benoit, T (IRFU, Saclay) ; Desforge, D (IRFU, Saclay) ; Ferrer-Ribas, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Malgorn, C (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Oliveri, E (CERN) et al.
Recent developments have shown that coupling a Micromegas gaseous detector on a glass substrate with a transparent anode and a CMOS camera enables the optical readout of Micromegas detectors with a good spatial resolution, demonstrating that the glass Micromegas detector is well-suited for imaging. This feasibility test has been effectuated with low-energy X-ray photons also permitting energy resolved imaging. [...]

The 3D silicon sensors aimed for the ATLAS pixel detector upgrade have been tested with a high energy pion beam at the CERN SPS in 2009. Two types of sensor layouts were tested: full-3D assemblies fabricated in Stanford, where the electrodes penetrate the entire silicon wafer thickness, and modified-3D assemblies fabricated at FBK-irst with partially overlapping electrodes.
