Thermalization of a jet wake in QCD kinetic theory / Zhou, Fabian (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Brewer, Jasmine (CERN) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (U. Heidelberg, ITP)
We study the energy deposition of a high-momentum parton traveling through a Quark-Gluon Plasma using QCD kinetic theory. We show that the energy is first transported to the soft sector by collinear cascade and then isotropised by elastic scatterings. [...]

Exploring jet substructure with jet shapes in ALICE / Caffarri, D. (CERN) /ALICE Collaboration
The characterization of the jet substructure can give insight into the microscopic nature of the modification induced on high-momentum partons by the Quark-Gluon Plasma that is formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Jet shapes allow us to study the modification of parton to jet fragmentation and virtuality, probing jet energy redistribution, intra-jet broadening or collimation and possible flavour hierarchy. QCD thermalization: Ab initio approaches and interdisciplinary connections / Berges, Jürgen (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Heller, Michal P. (Potsdam, Max Planck Inst.) ; Mazeliauskas, Aleksas (CERN) ; Venugopalan, Raju (Brookhaven)
Heavy-ion collisions at BNL's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and CERN's Large Hadron Collider provide strong evidence for the formation of a quark-gluon plasma, with temperatures extracted from relativistic viscous hydrodynamic simulations shown to be well above the transition temperature from hadron matter. How the strongly correlated quark-gluon matter forms in a heavy-ion collision, its properties off-equilibrium, and the thermalization process in the plasma, are outstanding problems in QCD. [...]

Kinetic and Chemical Equilibration of Quark-Gluon Plasma / Du, Xiaojian (speaker) (Universität Bielefeld)
We establish a non-equilibrium QCD evolution model with light quark and gluon degrees of freedom. By including both elastic and inelastic scattering for quarks and gluon, the model is proficient to describe kinetic and chemical equilibration of quark-gluon plasma, and thus connect the initial (semi-) hard production of partons at early times with the hydrodynamic description of a near-thermalized quark-gluon plasma after the first fm/c of collision. Jet substructure measurements in heavy-ion collisions with ALICE / Mulligan, James (LBNL, Berkeley ; UC, Berkeley (main)) /ALICE Collaboration
Jet substructure, defined by observables constructed from the distribution of constituents within a jet, provides the versatility to tailor observables to specific regions of QCD radiation phase space. This flexibility provides exciting new opportunities to study jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions and to ultimately help reveal the nature of the quark-gluon plasma. [...]

Quark-gluon plasma properties / Krintiras, Georgios (Kansas U.) /ALICE Collaboration ; ATLAS Collaboration ; CMS Collaboration ; LHCb Collaboration
Heavy ion collisions are used to study fundamental features of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) matter via its excitation to phases where quarks and gluons are no more confined into hadrons. Studies of the properties of this deconfined quark–gluon matter, called quark–gluon plasma (QGP), at the Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider and the LHC have shown that the QGP behaves like a liquid with very small specific shear and bulk viscosities, and high opacity for energetic jets.
