Since 2005, measurements of Collins and Sivers asymmetries from the HERMES and COMPASS experiments have shown that both the transversity and the Sivers PDFs are different from zero and measurable in semi-inclusive DIS on transversely polarised targets. The COMPASS experiment at CERN has performed a rich programme in inclusive and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarised muons off longitudinally, transversely polarised and unpolarised nucleons. Drell-Yan measurements at the COMPASS experiment / Meyer-Conde, Marco (Illinois U., Urbana) /COMPASS Collaboration
In 2015 and 2018 the COMPASS experiment at CERN measured muon-pair production in the Drell-Yan (DY) and J/Psi channels using a 190 GeV $\pi^-$ beam impinging on a transversely polarized NH$_3$ and unpolarized nuclear targets ($^{27}$Al, $^{184}$W). Measurement of target-polarization dependent azimuthal asymmetries in SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes at COMPASS experiment / Parsamyan, Bakur (CERN ; Turin U. ; INFN, Turin)
According to QCD the quark structure of the nucleon spin within the \textit{twist-2} approximation is parameterized by eight transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs). The PDFs describe the distributions of longitudinal and transverse momenta of partons and their correlations with nucleon and quark polarizations and can be accessed through measurement of spin (in)dependent azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS (SIDIS) and Drell-Yan processes.The COMPASS experiment at CERN, as part of its programme, addresses the exploration of the spin structure of the nucleon by measuring spin (in)dependent azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS and, recently, also in Drell-Yan processes.
