Electron Beam Characterization of REBCO-Coated Conductors at Cryogenic Conditions
/ Haubner, Michal (CERN ; Prague, Tech. U.) ; Krkotic, Patrick (CERN) ; Serafim, Catarina (CERN ; Helsinki U.) ; Petit, Valentine (CERN) ; Baglin, Vincent (CERN) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Henrist, Bernard (CERN) ; Romanov, Artur (Barcelona, Autonoma U.) ; Puig, Teresa (Barcelona, Autonoma U.) ; Gutierrez, Joffre (Barcelona, Autonoma U.)
Particle accelerators with superconducting magnets operating at cryogenic temperatures use a beam screen (BS) liner that extracts heat generated by the circulating bunched charge particle beam before it can reach the magnets. The BS surface, commonly made of high-conductivity copper, provides a low impedance for beam stability reasons, low secondary electron yield (SEY)to mitigate the electron-cloud (EC) effect, and low electron-stimulated desorption yield (ESD) to limit the dynamic pressure rise due to EC. Evaluation of the impact of REBCO-coated conductors on the resistive wall impedance of the FCC-hh
/ Tagdulang, N D (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Günzel, T (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Pont, M (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Krkotic, P (CERN) ; O'Callaghan, J M (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.)
The beam screen for the Future Circular hadron-hadron Collider (FCC-hh) has a baseline design based on a copper (Cu) coating. Calculations have indicated that the resistive wall impedance will be the major contributor to the beam impedance for the FCC-hh at both injection and collision and that Cu might be on the limit to ensure beam stability. Performance of high-temperature superconducting REBCO coated conductors under synchrotron irradiation for future circular colliders
/ Krkotić, Patrick (CELLS - ALBA, LLS ; Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Traver, Oriol (CELLS - ALBA, LLS) ; Tagdulang, Nikki (CELLS - ALBA, LLS ; Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Manuel O’Callaghan, Juan (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Pont, Montse (CELLS - ALBA, LLS)
The influence of medium-to-high energy synchrotron radiation (SR) (≈10–100 keV) produced by the ALBA Synchrotron Light Source on state-of-the-art REBCO coated conductors (CCs) has been studied to assess the feasibility of using high-temperature superconductors for the beam screen of future circular colliders. Long-term irradiation studies were conducted with ex-situ surface resistance testing by using a dielectric resonator. [...]

Design of New Resonant Haloscopes in the Search for the Dark Matter Axion: A Review of the First Steps in the RADES Collaboration
/ Díaz-Morcillo, Alejandro (Cartagena Politecnica U.) ; Barceló, José María García (Cartagena Politecnica U.) ; Guerrero, Antonio José Lozano (Cartagena Politecnica U.) ; Navarro, Pablo (Cartagena Politecnica U.) ; Gimeno, Benito (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Cuendis, Sergio Arguedas (CERN) ; Melcón, Alejandro Álvarez (Cartagena Politecnica U.) ; Cogollos, Cristian (Barcelona, IEEC) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Döbrich, Babette (CERN) et al.
Within the increasing interest in the dark matter axion detection through haloscopes, in which different international groups are currently involved, the RADES group was established in 2016 with the goal of developing very sensitive detection systems to be operated in dipole magnets. This review deals with the work developed by this collaboration during its first five years, from the first designs, based on the multi-cavity concept, aiming to increase the haloscope volume and, so, to improve its sensitivity, their evolution, the data acquisition design, and, finally, the first experimental run. Performance of a spaghetti calorimeter prototype with tungsten absorber and garnet crystal fibres
/ An, Liupan (CERN) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Betti, Federico (CERN) ; Dall'Omo, Frederik (CERN) ; Gascon, David (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Golutvin, Andrey (Imperial Coll., London) ; Guz, Yury (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Kholodenko, Sergey (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Martinazzoli, Loris (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; De Cos, José Mazorra (Valencia U., IFIC) et al.
A spaghetti calorimeter (SPACAL) prototype with scintillating crystal fibres was assembled and tested with electron beams of energy from 1 to 5 GeV. The prototype comprised radiation-hard Cerium-doped Gd$_3$Al$_2$Ga$_3$O$_{12}$ (GAGG:Ce) and Y$_3$Al$_5$O$_{12}$ (YAG:Ce) embedded in a pure tungsten absorber. [...]
