/ Lerendegui-Marco, J (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Babiano-Suárez, V (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Balibrea-Correa, J (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Babiano-Suárez, V (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Caballero, L (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Calvo, D (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Domingo-Pardo, C (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Ladarescu, I (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Real, D (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Calviño, F (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) et al.
Neutron capture cross-section measurements are fundamental in the study of astrophysical phenomena, such as the slow neutron capture (s-) process of nucleosynthesis operating in red-giant stars. To enhance the sensitivity of such measurements we have developed the i-TED detector. [...]

i-TED is an innovative detection system which exploits Compton imaging techniques to achieve a superior signal-to-background ratio in ($n,\gamma$) cross-section measurements using time-of-flight technique. This work presents the first experimental validation of the i-TED apparatus for high-resolution time-of-flight experiments and demonstrates for the first time the concept proposed for background rejection. Silicon solid-state detectors for monitoring high-energy accelerator mixed field radiation environments
/ Biłko, Kacper (CERN) ; García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Sacristán Barbero, Mario (CERN) ; Prelipcean, Daniel (CERN) ; Cazzaniga, Carlo (CERN) ; Coronetti, Andrea (Jyvaskyla U. ; CERN) ; Martín-Holgado, Pedro (CNA, Seville) ; Morilla García, Yolanda (CNA, Seville) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Hajdas, Wojciech (PSI, Villigen)
This paper investigates an application of the 1000µm-thick silicon solid-state detector for monitoring of a mixed-field radiation environment, in particular an accelerator environment. The calibrations of the detector against both an alpha source and high-energy protons are presented. [...]

/n_TOF
Thin 33 S samples for the study of the 33 S(n, α ) 30 Si cross-section at the n_TOF facility at CERN were made by thermal evaporation of 33 S powder onto a dedicated substrate made of kapton covered with thin layers of copper, chromium and titanium. This method has provided for the first time bare sulfur samples a few centimeters in diameter. [...]

Measurement of the 238U Radiative Capture Cross Section with C6D6 at the CERN n_TOF Facility
/ Mingrone, F (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Massimi, C (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Altstadt, S (Frankfurt U.) ; Andrzejewski, J (U. Lodz (main)) ; Audouin, L ; Barbagallo, M (INFN, Bari) ; Bécares, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Bečvář, F ; Belloni, F (Saclay) ; Berthoumieux, E (Saclay ; CERN) et al.
We present the preliminary results of the U-238(n,gamma) reaction cross section measurement, performed on April 2012 at the CERN n\_TOF facility using C6D6 scintillation detectors over an energy range from thermal to 1 MeV. The goal of this measurement, which is part of a larger proposal, is to reach an uncertainty of 2\% in the cross section. [...]
