Recent developments in medical imaging techniques, in particular, those in time-of-flight positron emission tomography put new challenges on scintillating material performance that cannot be fulfilled by conventional scintillators. Bright and ultrafast nanoparticles represent promising candidates to build up an advanced detection system needed. [...]

On the use of CdSe scintillating nanoplatelets as time taggers for high-energy gamma detection / Turtos, R M (CERN) ; Gundacker, S (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Omelkov, S (Tartu, Inst. Phys.) ; Mahler, B (ILM, Lyon) ; Khan, A H (U. Gent (main)) ; Saaring, J (Tartu, Inst. Phys.) ; Meng, Z (ILM, Lyon) ; Vasil'ev, A (SINP, Moscow) ; Dujardin, C (ILM, Lyon) ; Kirm, M (Tartu, Inst. The technological challenge imposed by the time resolution essential to achieve real-time molecular imaging calls for a new generation of ultrafast detectors. In this contribution, we demonstrate that CdSe-based semiconductor nanoplatelets can be combined with standard scintillator technology to achieve 80 ps coincidence time resolution on a hybrid functional pixel. We fabricate thin films of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals on glass substrates and cerium-doped LYSO substrates (lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate, LuxY2-xSiO5:Ce) using spin-coating and drop-casting methods, respectively. We study their structural and optical properties. [...]

Timing performance of lead halide perovskite nanoscintillators embedded in a polystyrene matrix / Děcká, Kateřina (Prague, Tech. U. ; Prague, Inst. Nanomaterials like CsPbBr$_3$, benefiting from quantum confinement effects to feature ultra-fast decay time and tunable emission, are paving the way for the next generation of fast timing detectors. However, an ongoing challenge is to exploit their favorable properties in a full detector, given their size and instability. [...]

Search for Higgs boson decays into pairs of light (pseudo)scalar particles in the $\gamma\gamma jj$ final state in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
This Letter presents a search for exotic decays of the Higgs boson to a pair of new (pseudo)scalar particles, $H\to aa$, where the $a$ particle has a mass in the range 20-60 GeV, and where one of the $a$ bosons decays into a pair of photons and the other to a pair of gluons. The search is performed in event samples enhanced in vector-boson fusion Higgs boson production by requiring two jets with large invariant mass in addition to the Higgs boson candidate decay products. Measurements of the suppression and correlations of dijets in Xe+Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.44 TeV / ATLAS Collaboration
Measurements of the suppression and correlations of dijets is performed using 3 $\mu$b$^{-1}$ of Xe+Xe data at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.44$ TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Dijets with jets reconstructed using the $R=0.4$ anti-$k_t$ algorithm are measured differentially in jet $p_{\text{T}}$ over the range of 32 GeV to 398 GeV and the centrality of the collisions. [...]

Exclusive dimuon production in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02$ TeV with ATLAS / ATLAS Collaboration
Exclusive dimuon production in ultraperipheral collisions (UPC), resulting from photon-photon interactions in the strong electromagnetic fields of colliding high-energy lead nuclei, $\mathrm{PbPb} (\gamma\gamma) \rightarrow \mu\mu (\mathrm{Pb}^{(\star)}\mathrm{Pb}^{(\star)} )$, is studied using $\mathcal{L}_{\mathrm{int}} = 0.48$ nb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=5.02$ TeV lead-lead collision data at the LHC with the ATLAS detector. Dimuon pairs are measured in the fiducial region $p_{\mathrm{T}\mu} > 4$ GeV, $\eta_{\mu} < 2.4$, invariant mass $m_{\mu\mu} > 10$ GeV, and $p_{\mathrm{T\mu\mu}} < 2$ GeV. [...]

Measurement of the nuclear modification factor for muons from charm and bottom hadrons in Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
Heavy-flavour hadron production provides information about the transport properties and microscopic structure of the quark- gluon plasma created in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. A measurement of the muons from semileptonic decays of charm and bottom hadrons produced in Pb+Pb and $pp$ collisions at a nucleon- nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. Medium-induced modification of $Z$-tagged charged particle yields in Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
The yield of charged particles opposite to a $Z$ boson with large transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) is measured in 260 ${pb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ and 1.7 ${nb}^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collision data at 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The $Z$ boson tag is used to select hard-scattered partons with specific kinematics, and to observe how their showers are modified as they propagate through the quark-gluon plasma created in Pb+Pb collisions. Search for Higgs boson decays into a $Z$ boson and a light hadronically decaying resonance using 13 TeV $pp$ collision data from the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
A search for Higgs boson decays into a $Z$ boson and a light resonance in two-lepton plus jet events is performed, using a $pp$ collision dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$ collected at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The resonance considered is a light boson with a mass below 4 GeV from a possible extended scalar sector, or a charmonium state. [...]
