Confinement versus 1-form symmetries at large N* / Cherman, Aleksey (speaker) (University of Minnesota)
There are two known ways to tie quark confinement to symmetries: one way (the older one) in terms of "center symmetry", and the other one (the newer one) is in terms of a "1-form symmetry". By now it is widely accepted that the new idea of 1-form symmetry, which is based on the existence of co-dimension-2 topological operators, is a generalization of the old idea of center symmetry. The Fate of Discrete 1-Form Symmetries in 6d / Apruzzi, Fabio (Oxford U., Inst. Math.) ; Dierigl, Markus (Pennsylvania U.) ; Lin, Ling (CERN)
Recently introduced generalized global symmetries have been useful in order to understand non-perturbative aspects of quantum field theories in four and lower dimensions. In this paper we focus on 1-form symmetries of weakly coupled 6d supersymmetric gauge theories coupled to dynamical tensor multiplets. [...]

Gauging spacetime inversions / Harlow, Daniel (speaker) (MIT)
Spacetime inversion symmetries such as parity and time reversal play a central role in physics, but they are usually treated as global symmetries. In quantum gravity there are no global symmetries, so any spacetime inversion symmetries must be gauge symmetries. [...]

String Universality and Non-Simply-Connected Gauge Groups in 8d / Cvetič, Mirjam (Pennsylvania U. ; Maribor U.) ; Dierigl, Markus (Pennsylvania U.) ; Lin, Ling (CERN) ; Zhang, Hao Y. (Pennsylvania U.)
We present a consistency condition for 8d ${\cal N} = 1$ supergravity theories with non-trivial global structure $G/Z$ for the non-Abelian gauge group, based on an anomaly involving the $Z$ 1-form center symmetry. The interplay with other Swampland criteria identifies the majority of 8d theories with gauge group $G/Z$, which have no string theory realization, as inconsistent quantum theories when coupled to gravity. Higher-form symmetries and their anomalies in M-/F-theory duality / Cvetic, Mirjam (Pennsylvania U. ; Maribor U.) ; Dierigl, Markus (Munich U., ASC) ; Lin, Ling (CERN) ; Zhang, Hao Y. (Pennsylvania U.)
We explore higher-form symmetries of M- and F-theory compactified on elliptic fibrations, determined by the topology of their asymptotic boundaries. The underlying geometric structures are shown to be equivalent to known characterizations of the gauge group topology in F-theory via Mordell--Weil torsion and string junctions. [...]

WZW terms without anomalies: generalised symmetries in chiral Lagrangians / Davighi, Joe (CERN) ; Lohitsiri, Nakarin (Durham U., Dept. of Math.)
We consider a 4d non-linear sigma model on the coset $(\mathrm{SU}(N)_L \times \mathrm{SU}(N)_R \times \mathrm{SU}(2))/(\mathrm{SU}(N)_{L+R}\times \mathrm{U}(1))\cong \mathrm{SU}(N) \times S^2$, that features a topological Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) term whose curvature is $\frac{n}{24\pi^2}\mathrm{Tr}(g^{-1}dg)^3 \wedge \mathrm{Vol}_{S^2}$ where $g$ is the $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ pion field.
