ATF2-3 hardware upgrade and new experimental results to maximize luminosity potential of linear colliders / Faus-Golfe, Angeles (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Aryshev, Alexander (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Lyapin, Alexey (Oxford U.) ; Kruchinin, Konstantin (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Fuster-Martinez, Nuria (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Burrows, Philip (Oxford U.) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) /ATF2 Collaboration
The ATF2-3 beamline is the only facility in the world for testing the Final Focus Beamline of linear colliders and is essential for the ILC and the CLIC projects. A vertical electron beam size of 41 nm (within 10% of the target), a closed-loop intra-bunch feedback of latency 133 ns, and direct stabilization of the beam position at the Interaction Point to 41 nm (limited by IP BPM resolution) have all been achieved at ATF2. A Sub-Micron Resolution, Bunch-by-Bunch Beam Trajectory Feedback System and Its Application to Reducing Wakefield Effects in Single-Pass Beamlines / Bett, Douglas R (Oxford U.) ; Burrows, Philip N (Oxford U.) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Perry, Colin (Oxford U.) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (Oxford U.) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba)
A high-precision intra-bunch-train beam orbit feedback correction system has been developed and tested at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility, ATF2. The system uses the vertical position of the bunch measured at two beam position monitors to calculate a pair of kicks which are applied to the next bunch using two upstream kickers, thereby correcting both the vertical position and trajectory angle. An FPGA-based Bunch-by-Bunch Position and Angle Feedback System at ATF2 / Christian, G B (Oxford U., JAI) ; Apsimon, R J (Oxford U., JAI) ; Bett, D R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Burrows, P N (Oxford U., JAI) ; Constance, B (Oxford U., JAI) ; Davis, M R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Gerbershagen, A (Oxford U., JAI) ; Perry, C (Oxford U., JAI) ; Resta Lopez, J (Valencia U.,IFIC)
The FONT5 intra-train feedback system serves as a prototype for an interaction point beam-based feedback system for future electron-positron colliders, such as the International Linear Collider. The system has been tested on the KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) and is deployed to stabilise the beam orbit at the ATF2. [...]

The ATF2 facility at KEK is a proving ground for linear collider technology with a well instrumented extracted beam line and Final Focus (FF). The primary ATF2 goal is to demonstrate the extreme beam demagnification and spot stability needed for a linear collider FF [1]. [...]

Contribution of Optical Aberrations to Spot-size Increase with Bunch Intensity at ATF2 / Patecki, Marcin (CERN ; Warsaw U. of Tech.) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Kuroda, Shigeru (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Naito, Takashi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tauchi, Toshiaki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; White, Glen (SLAC) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN)
A primary goal of ATF2 (Accelerator Test Facility) is to demonstrate a low vertical beam size at the interaction point (IP) of about 37 nm. Measurements over the past years indicate that the ATF2 vertical beam size strongly rises with bunch intensity. [...]

Performance of Nanometre-Level Resolution Cavity Beam Position Monitors and Their Application in an Intra-Train Beam Position Feedback System / Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (JAI, UK) ; Bambade, Philip (Orsay, LAL) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Bromwich, Talitha (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, UK) ; Jang, Si-Won (Korea U.) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK) ; Tauchi, Toshiaki (KEK, Tsukuba) et al.
A system of three low-Q cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), installed in the interaction point (IP) region of the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at KEK, has been designed and optimised for nanometre-level beam position resolution. The BPMs have been used to provide an input to a low-latency, intra-train beam position feedback system consisting of a digital feedback board and a custom stripline kicker with power amplifier. The FONT5 Bunch-by-Bunch Position and Angle Feedback System at ATF2 / Apsimon, R J (Oxford U., JAI) ; Bett, D R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Burrows, P N (Oxford U., JAI) ; Christian, G B (Oxford U., JAI) ; Constance, B (Oxford U., JAI ; CERN) ; Davis, M R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Gerbershagen, A (Oxford U., JAI ; CERN) ; Perry, C (Oxford U., JAI) ; Resta-Lopez, J (Valencia U., IFIC)
The FONT5 upstream beam-based feedback system at ATF2 is designed to correct the position and angle jitter at the entrance to the ATF2 final-focus system, and also to demonstrate a prototype intra-train feedback system for the International Linear Collider interaction point. We discuss the hardware, from stripline BPMs to kickers, and RF and digital signal processing, as well as presenting results from the latest beam tests at ATF2..

The next generation of future linear colliders (LC) demands nano-meter beam sizes at the interaction point (IP) in order to reach the required luminosity. The final focus system (FFS) of a LC is meant to deliver such small beam sizes. [...]

Charge-dependent effects on the orbit and on the beam size affect the performance of the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) in a non-negligible way. Until now small beam sizes have only been achieved running with a beam charge significantly smaller than the nominal value. [...]
