Investigation on different materials after pulsed high field conditioning and low-energy H- irradiation / Serafim, Catarina (CERN ; Helsinki U.) ; Peacock, R. (CERN) ; Calatroni, S. (CERN) ; Djurabekova, F. (Helsinki U.) ; Perez Fontenla, A.T. (CERN) ; Wuensch, W. (CERN) ; Sgobba, S. (CERN) ; Grudiev, A. (CERN) ; Lombardi, A. (CERN) ; Sargsyan, E. (CERN) et al.
During operation, the radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) of the LINAC4 at CERN is exposed to high electric fields, which can lead to vacuum breakdown. It is also subject to beam loss, which can cause surface modification, including blistering, which can result in reduced electric field holding and an increased breakdown rate. [...]

Pulsed DC High Field Measurements of Irradiated and Non-Irradiated Electrodes of Different Materials / Peacock, Ruth (Lancaster U. (main) ; CERN) ; Bellodi, Giulia (CERN) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. Beam loss occurs in Radio Frequency Quadrupoles (RFQ), and has been observed in the H⁻ linear accelerator Linac4 (L4) at CERN. To determine if beam loss can induce breakdowns, and to compare the robustness of different materials, tests have been done using pulsed high-voltage DC systems. [...]

Recent results with radiation-tolerant TowerJazz 180 nm MALTA sensors / LeBlanc, Matt (CERN) ; Allport, Phil (Birmingham U.) ; Asensi, Igancio (CERN) ; Berlea, Dumitru-Vlad (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Bortoletto, Daniela (Oxford U.) ; Buttar, Craig (Glasgow U.) ; Dachs, Florian (CERN) ; Dao, Valerio (CERN) ; Denizli, Haluk (Abant Izzet Baysal U.) ; Dobrijevic, Dominik (CERN ; Zagreb U.) et al.
To achieve the physics goals of future colliders, it is necessary to develop novel, radiation-hard silicon sensors for their tracking detectors. We target the replacement of hybrid pixel detectors with Depleted Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (DMAPS) that are radiation-hard, monolithic CMOS sensors. [...]

Design and behaviour of the Large Hadron Collider external beam dumps capable of receiving 539 MJ/dump / Maestre, J. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Torregrosa, C. (CERN ; Granada U.) ; Kershaw, K. Two 6-t beam dumps, made of a graphite core encapsulated in a stainless steel vessel, are used to absorb the energy of the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) intense proton beams during operation of the accelerator. Operational issues started to appear in 2015 during LHC Run 2 (2014-2018) as a consequence of the progressive increase of the LHC beam kinetic energy, necessitating technical interventions in the highly radioactive areas around the dumps. Effect of dc voltage pulsing on high-vacuum electrical breakdowns near Cu surfaces / Saressalo, Anton (Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Profatilova, Iaroslava (ECFA) ; Millar, William L. (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Kyritsakis, Andreas (Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Calatroni, Sergio (CERN) ; Wuensch, Walter (CERN) ; Djurabekova, Flyura (Helsinki Inst. of Phys.)
Vacuum electrical breakdowns, also known as vacuum arcs, are a limiting factor in many devices that are based on application of high electric fields near their component surfaces. Understanding of processes that lead to breakdown events may help mitigating their appearance and suggest ways for improving operational efficiency of power-consuming devices. [...]
