Towards the Last Stages of the CERN’s AD-Target Area Consolidation Project and Recommissioning Plans to Resume Operation / Torregrosa, Claudio (CERN) ; Ahdida, Claudia (CERN) ; Bouvard, Aymeric (CERN) ; Broche, Alexandre (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Clerc, Vincent (CERN) ; De Macedo, Aurelio (CERN) ; De Man, Sven (CERN) et al.
Antiprotons are produced at CERN at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) Target Area by impacting 26 GeV/c proton beams onto a fixed target. Further collection, momentum selection, and transport of the secondary particles - including antiprotons - towards the AD ring is realised by a 400 kA pulsed magnetic horn and a set of magnetic dipoles and quadrupoles. Third-Generation CERN n_TOF Spallation Target: Final Design and Examinations of Irradiated Prototype / Esposito, Raffaele (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Crouvizier, Mickaël (CERN) ; Franqueira Ximenes, Rui (CERN) ; Maire, Vincent (CERN) ; Pérez Fontenla, Ana Teresa (CERN) ; Timmins, Marc (CERN)
The new neutron spallation target for the CERN neutron Time-Of-Flight (n_TOF) facility is based on a nitrogen-cooled Pb core impacted by short high-intensity proton beam pulses. An extensive material characterization campaign has been carried out to define the constitutive behavior of lead and assess its response under pulsed proton beam irradiation. [...]

Design of the third-generation lead-based neutron spallation target for the neutron time-of-flight facility at CERN / n_TOF Collaboration
The neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) is a pulsed white-spectrum neutron spallation source producing neutrons for two experimental areas: the Experimental Area 1 (EAR1), located 185 m horizontally from the target, and the Experimental Area 2 (EAR2), located 20 m above the target. The target, based on pure lead, is impacted by a high-intensity 20-GeV/c pulsed proton beam. [...]

Design, Prototyping Activities and Beam Irradiation Test for the New n_{TOF} Neutron Spallation Target / Esposito, Raffaele (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bergeret, Marc (CERN) ; Busom, Josep (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Cimmino, Roberta (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Espadanal, Joao (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Illan Fiastre, Ricardo (CERN) et al.
A third-generation neutron spallation target for the neutron time-of-flight facility at CERN (n_{TOF}) is currently undergoing the design and prototyping stage. The new design aims at improving reliability, increasing beam intensity on target and avoiding issues encountered in the current generation target, in particular the contamination of the cooling system water with radioactive spallation products coming from washing out lead. RF Design of a High-frequency RFQ Linac for PIXE Analysis / Pommerenke, Hermann (CERN ; U. Protons with an energy of few MeV are commonly used for Ion Beam Analysis of materials, in particular with the Proton Induced X-ray Emission technique (PIXE). Because of its non-damaging character, PIXE is used in a variety of fields, in particular for the diagnosis of cultural heritage artwork. [...]

Fabrication and testing of a novel S-Band backward travelling wave accelerating structure for proton therapy linacs / Benedetti, Stefano (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Blanch Gutiérrez, Cesar (CERN) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Degiovanni, Alberto (CERN) ; Esperante Pereira, Daniel (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Garlaschè, Marco (CERN) ; Giner Navarro, Jorge (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; McMonagle, Gerard (CERN) et al.
Compact and more affordable, facilities for proton therapy are now entering the market of commercial medical accelerators. At CERN, a joint collaboration between CLIC and TERA Foundation led to the design, fabrication and testing of a high gradient accelerating structure prototype, capable of halving the length of state-of-art light ion therapy linacs.
