“Particle therapy - future for the Baltic states?” – synthesis of the expert workshop report
/ Paļskis, Kristaps (Riga Tech. U. ; CERN) ; Korobeinikova, Erika ; Bogorada-Saukuma, Dace ; Camarda, Anna Maria (CNAO, Milan) ; Taylor, Rebecca (CERN ; Imperial Coll., London) ; Benedetto, Elena ; Mamis, Edgars (CERN ; Latvia U.) ; Radziņa, Maija ; Ērglis, Andrejs (Latvia U.) ; Adliene, Diana et al.
Background Baltic States remains one of the few regions in the Europe without a dedicated particle therapy center. An initiative since 2021 has been started by CERN Baltic Group on a novel particle therapy center development in the region in partnership with CERN NIMMS collaboration. [...]

This paper reports the exploratory studies on advanced accelerator technologies performed within the I.FAST (Innovation Fostering in Accelerator Science and Technology) EU project, and in particular the key results of the additive manufacturing Task 10.2 – “Additive Manufacturing – applications and potential developments” and Task 10.3 – “Repair of damaged accelerator components by AM technologies”. This includes results of two surveys targeted to the accelerator community: a) on current additive manufacturing applications in accelerators and expected new developments, b) on current additive manufacturing repair technologies for accelerator and list of possible applications. Metal additive manufacturing for particle accelerator applications
/ Romano, Tobia (Milan, Polytech. ; Riga Tech. U.) ; Pikurs, Guntis (CERN ; Riga Tech. U.) ; Ratkus, Andris (Riga Tech. U.) ; Torims, Toms (CERN ; Riga Tech. U.) ; Delerue, Nicolas (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Vretenar, Maurizio (CERN) ; Stepien, Lukas (Fraunhofer Inst., Dresden) ; López, Elena (Fraunhofer Inst., Dresden) ; Vedani, Maurizio (Milan, Polytech.)
Metal additive manufacturing technologies are rapidly becoming an integral part of the advanced technological portfolio for the most demanding industrial applications. These processes are capable of fabricating three-dimensional components with near-net shape quality by depositing the constituent materials in a layer-by-layer fashion. [...]

Conceptual design of a compact synchrotron-based facility for cancer therapy and biomedical research with helium and proton beams
/ Vretenar, M (CERN) ; Angoletta, M E (CERN) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Taylor, R (CERN) ; Tranquille, G (CERN) ; Benedetto, E (Unlisted, CH) ; Torims, T (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Paļskis, K (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Sapinski, M (PSI, Villigen) et al.
Thanks to their superior dose conformality and higher radiobiological effectiveness with respect to protons, helium ions are considered as the new tool of choice in the fight against cancer using particle beams. A facility to produce helium beams at therapeutical energy can also accelerate protons, at energies permitting both standardised treatment and full body radiography, and heavier ions for treatment of shallow tumours and for research. Literature Review of Suspension Systems for Superconducting Elements
/ Piacentini, Luca (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Dassa, Luca (CERN) ; Perini, Diego (CERN) ; Ratkus, Andris (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Torims, Toms (Latvia U., ISSP) ; Uberti, Stefano (U. Brescia)
When designing suspension systems for superconducting elements, the primary challenge is to strike a balance between limiting the heat load to the cold mass and ensuring the proper mechanical resistance and/or stiffness of the system. This trade-off often leads engineers to choose from a limited set of materials and supporting architectures. [...]
