Exciting times / Giannotti, Maurizio (Barry U.)
While axions remain elusive, the CERN Axion Solar Telescope has now reached the interesting region where physics beyond the standard model could be glimpsed..

Feebly-interacting particles: FIPs 2020 workshop report / Agrawal, Prateek (Oxford U., Theor. Phys.) ; Bauer, Martin (Durham U., IPPP) ; Beacham, James (Duke U.) ; Berlin, Asher (New York U., CCPP ; New York U.) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Cebrian, Susana (Zaragoza U.) ; Cid-Vidal, Xabier (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; d'Enterria, David (CERN) ; De Roeck, Albert (CERN) ; Drewes, Marco (Louvain U., CP3) et al.
With the establishment and maturation of the experimental programs searching for new physics with sizeable couplings at the LHC, there is an increasing interest in the broader particle and astrophysics community for exploring the physics of light and feebly-interacting particles as a paradigm complementary to a New Physics sector at the TeV scale and beyond. FIPs 2020 has been the first workshop fully dedicated to the physics of feebly-interacting particles and was held virtually from 31 August to 4 September 2020. [...]

Constraints on the coupling with photons of heavy axion-like-particles from Globular Clusters / Carenza, Pierluca (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) ; Straniero, Oscar (Rome Observ.) ; Döbrich, Babette (CERN) ; Giannotti, Maurizio (Barry U.) ; Lucente, Giuseppe (Bari U.) ; Mirizzi, Alessandro (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari)
We update the globular cluster bound on massive ($m_a$ up to a few 100 keV) axion-like particles (ALP) interacting with photons. The production of such particles in the stellar core is dominated by the Primakoff $\gamma + Ze\to Ze +a$ and by the photon coalescence process $\gamma+\gamma\to a$. [...]

IAXO, next-generation of helioscopes / Giannotti, Maurizio (Barry U.) ; Ruz, Jaime (LLNL, Livermore) ; Vogel, Julia K. (LLNL, Livermore)
The International Axion Observatory (IAXO) is a forth generation axion helioscope designed to detect solar axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) with a coupling to the photon $g_{a\gamma}$ down to a few $10^{-12}$ GeV$^{-1}$, 1.5 orders of magnitude beyond the current best astrophysical and experimental upper bounds. This range includes parameter values invoked in the context of the observed anomalies in light propagation over astronomical distances and to explain the excessive cooling observed in a number of stellar objects. [...]

Stellar Evolution Bounds on the ALP-Photon Coupling: new Results and Perspectives / Giannotti, Maurizio (Barry U.)
Stellar evolution considerations are of fundamental importance in our understanding of the axion/ALP-photon coupling, g_{a\gamma}. Helium burning stars are the best laboratories to study this coupling. [...]
