Abdus Salam shared with Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg the 1979 Nobel Prize for Physics. A celebration took place in CERN within few days from his nomination. It was at CERN that the heavy liquid chamber Gargamelle first saw the neutral current interaction predicted by the electroweak theory.
