Abstract We report on a measurement of the inclusive cross sections of Lambda , Lambda , K/sub S//sup 0/, Xi /sup +/and Omega /sup -/ production by Sigma /sup -/ and pi /sup -/ f 345 GeV/c momentum and by neutrons of 260 GeV/c mean momentum in copper and carbon. The differential cross sections as function of p/sub t//sup 2/ show a distinct non-gaussian behavior above 1.2 (GeV/c)/sup 2/. A comparison of the x/sub F/- dependence of Lambda , Lambda and K/sup 0/ production with calculations using PYTHIA and the QCSM model is discussed. (43 refs).
