Abstract	The goal of Run 2 of AWAKE is to demonstrate acceleration of bunches of electrons with stable and high gradients, while maintaining a good emittance of the bunch. The plan to reach this consists of four phases. In this document we describe the physics plan for the first phase, 2a, starting in 2021, where we will investigate seeding the modulation of the proton bunch using the existing electron injector and beam line of AWAKE.
